Who is Adarsh
Adarsh is a Sanskrit word, meaning “Ideal.” It was my mothers’ name and she for sure epitomized the meaning of the word. She left for heaven many years ago, yet she is alive through our actions. She believed that prayers are offered by taking care of God’s creation including fellow human beings in need. Going to a religious place alone is not sufficient unless we take care of what God has created; everything and everyone around us.

Balancing personal obligations and giving back, after all we are merely mortals!
Our lives are getting busier with each passing decade especially for the sandwich generation. In our late thirties and early forties, we find ourselves struggling to balance our kids, our extended family, our relationship with our spouses or significant others, and our careers. There is not much time for anything else. How does one consider allocating time to giving back even when the heart yearns for it? Balancing the personal obligations and giving back can be a daunting task. Most of us feel the duty to contribute to our community and help those in need.

Although reasons for increase in negativity will remain debatable, twenty-four-hour news media, political segregation and social media are contributing to our anxiety and our negative behavior towards others.

Staying Positive Amidst Media Negativity: A Stoic Approach
In an era dominated by media saturation, negativity seems to permeate every corner of our lives. Alarming news headlines and divisive social media debates create a constant influx of distressing information, often leading to feelings of despair. A few years ago, I came across the writings of Marcus Aurelius, a Roman emperor and prominent Stoic philosopher, who offers a timeless solution: while we cannot control external circumstances, we have full control over our reactions to them.

Why Host a Gala?
Hosting a gala for a charitable cause is often criticized for being an inefficient use of resources, given the high costs and relatively low return on investment. However, the impact of Vision Gala extends far beyond immediate financial returns. The gala foster community engagement, strengthen donor relationships, raise awareness, and provide long-term sustainability for the cause.
